April fool’s day is a day when you get to play practical jokes and hoaxes on other people. The jokes and their victims are known as April fools.

The theories behind April fool’s day are that in the Middle Ages New year’s was celebrated on March 25 in most European towns. New Year was a week long holiday ending on April 1^st. People think that April fool’s day has been originated when the people that would celebrate New Years on January 1^st made fun of those who celebrated on other days.

Fool’s day?

Some pros of April fools can be that you are able to make fun of other people and laugh about the pranks that you have made. Some cons can be being pranked back. Other cons can be that some people may take a prank to serious and other can end up being hurt.

Reflection: I agree with what Ralph Waldo is saying in this quote. Character is higher than intellect. If you have bad character you will not have any friends and people will not like you. If you have good character you will be surrounded by good people and people will think of you as a good person. This makes me agree with him in thinking that character is higher than intellect. It doesn’t really matter how smart you are but how much you try and do it in a good way.

Duties and responsibilities: Some duties and responsibilities that health librarians have are they provide medical information through books, pamphlets, journals, tapes, multimedia presentations and the internet. Health librarians help anyone with all the information they need like parents, students, and health providers.

Salary: $58,000

Education: To become a health science librarian you must graduate from high school first. Then a four year bachelor degree is needed. It must include science and computer science. A master’s degree in library science is also mandatory to become a health science librarian. Health science librarians are not required to be certified. You may have to pass through certification examinations.

 In my opinion I think that I would not like to be a health sciences librarian. I think that I would get really bored of my job really fast. I would like to be something more important that just someone who gives out information. They do get paid well annually but I really think that it is something that I would want to work in.

Reflection: I agree with what Tyler Haws is saying in this quote. I agree with him because after watching the two videos of what he has done and accomplished with hard work it has convinced me that he is right. He has worked really hard like waking up in the morning two hours earlier to go to school so that he can go to church and practice. An example that I can give is if you can imagine a person like him working really hard to accomplish something you will achieve your goal if you try your best. In the other hand if you have a goal but you start forgetting about it and you try at all in achieving the goal you may never accomplish it. It all depends in how much you try.

   Elizabeth Bathory

Elizabeth Bathory was the daughter of George Bathory and Baroness Ana Bathory who were one of the most powerful protestant families in Hungary and numbered warlords. Because of Elizabeth’s sadistic behavior people said that she might have been insane from childhood. Elizabeth fell pregnant and gave away her child in a foster home to be raised by peasants.  Ferenc her husband had shown her many ways to punish the peasants. There are tales of them making diabolical rites patronizing Satanists. After ten years of marriage she had three kids. Because her husband was absent so much Elizabeth started torturing young servant girls for her pleasure. She would beat them with a barbed lash and a heavy cudgel then she would drag them naked into the snow and doused with cold water till they were frozen to death. After her husband died she transferred herself to the royal court in Vienna and spent most of her time in her castle. After striking a servant girl while she was brushing her hair the blood appeared to her that reduced the signs of aging in her skin. It was said that Elizabeth then started taking baths with her virgin female servants to reduce aging. People ignored all these things until January 1611. She was never convicted of any crime but she was wailed up within her bed chamber with only small slits for ventilation and to give her food. After three years Elizabeth was found dead in her castle on April 21, 1614.

Pursuit by Florence

A topic that interests me is what happened yesterday on March 17, 2015. Yesterday I heard a helicopter pass by my house so I had the curiosity of turning on the news. What I saw on the news was that really close to my house by Florence there was a 90 minute pursuit in south Los Angeles.  In this pursuit it involved a suspected stolen red sedan in the Florence area. The pursuit began at like 6:45 p.m. in Norwalk after deputies had spotted a vehicle that had been stolen that same day in the city of South Gate. The driver led deputies from the 105 freeway to the 110. The pursuit continued through south L.A. and Walnut where the driver ran over a spike strip. The driver kept going even after the car had a flat tire. While I was watching this at my house I couldn’t stop laughing because I didn’t know what was going through hat lady’s head. She didn’t give up I think that she actually though she was going to get away with it. What made me laugh the most was when the dark skinned man mad a run for it when he didn’t really have a chance to escape from three policemen. This made me think how many crazy people there is in the world.

Reflection: I agree with what Brigham young says in this quote. I believe that independence and freedom only exists in doing whats right. If you don’t do good things in life your life wouldn't be good and you wouldn't be free. For example if you go into a store and you steal something because you don’t have money. You are doing a crime and for that you will go to jail. You chose to steal from the store nobody was making you steal and because of that you lost your freedom. In the other hand if you are an independent person and you get a job you will have money to buy whatever you want without choosing the wrong and you will still have your independence and your freedom. In my opinion I think that you should always choose the right. 

       St. Patrick’s Day

Who was St. Patrick?

St. Patrick was a 5^th century Romano – British Christian missionary and bishop in Ireland. He is the primary patron saint in Ireland.  He was taken as a slave of Ireland when he was kidnapped at the age of 16 by the Ireland pirates.

What was the purpose of St. Patrick’s Day?

The purpose of Saint Patrick’s Day is to celebrate the death of Saint Patrick the patron saint of Ireland. It celebrates Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity to Ireland.

Why is St. Patrick’s Day designated when it is?

Saint Patrick’s Day is designed with the use of green and the drinking of beer and alcoholic beverages because it is the way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. This is all celebrated because of the death of St. Patrick.

Why a certain color on St. Patrick’s Day?

The reason why in Saint Patrick’s Day we wear things with the color green or shamrocks is because it is said that St. Patrick had used the shamrock to explain the holy trinity to the pagan Irish.

Video Reflection: This video was taken place at Olivet Middle school in Olivet Michigan where the life of an autistic kid by the name of Keith was about to change. Keith is in the football team at Olivet Middle school. He had never felt the feeling of scoring a touchdown so his football team members had something planned for him that will make him feel very proud. His teammate decided to not score a touchdown and get really close to the touchdown so that Keith can have the feeling of scoring. They protected him so that he wouldst have any trouble with scoring. Keith felt so happy and special when he scored the touchdown and felt like he was part of the team. I think that these kids had a great heart to do something like this. They not only thought of themselves but thought of his teammate and how happy this would make him. I think that this should be a lesson that a lot of kids should learn from.

Reflection: I agree with what George Chapman is saying in this quote. You can’t call a person great if they aren’t choosing the right or they are bad people. An example that I can give about this is if there is  a really good basketball player. If you see a very good basketball player in television and you admire him and call him a great person but he uses drugs or he uses steroids to be a good athlete he is not a great player after all. By cheating it doesn’t make you a great person it just makes you a person that should be ashamed of them and shouldn’t get recognition for choosing the wrong. On the other hand if there is a really good basketball player and he chooses the right and goes by the rules he is a great athlete. That athlete should get good recognition.

  Volunteer Opportunities

No One Should Die Alone, Need Volunteers (90016)

Silverado Hospice, Los Angeles

In Silverado hospice they are looking for volunteers to join their team. As a hospice volunteer your duty is that you have to visit patients in their own home, in hospitals or in other nursing facilities. These people are terminally ill and in their final stages of life. You need to read the paper or a book to the patient, play and listen to music, talk and listen to them. You have to make company and make them feel like they care.

Your duty here is to interview patients about food satisfaction in the hospital and inform them about the healthy choices. You also have to learn about the patient’s experience.

Silverado Hospice:

How you can apply for these volunteer positions is to be a volunteer for the Silverado Hospice you don’t really have to have experience in anything you just have to be at least 18 years of age. In this volunteer work you don’t have to do anything difficult only make others feel special.

California Hospital Medical Center:

      To be able to volunteer in the California hospital medical center you have to be at least 18 years of age. You are also supposed to do orientation or training.

Other interesting things: In the Silverado Hospice they will work with your schedule and they try to find a person who lives near your house so that you won’t work far.

Reflection: I agree with what George Mitchell is saying in this quote. Why would you be a cheater if cheating is the worst thing that you can do in sports? If you do things right little by little you will reach your goal without having to cheat. For example if you want to be a really good football player but you aren't as big and as tough as all the other football players don’t use steroids to get big in a short amount of time. It would be better to eat healthy and do a lot of exercise so that you can get strong. Taking the easy way like using steroids will cause large consequences in the future. It can even cause death and no team will like you for being a cheater.

Reflection: In my opinion I think that the quote by Dale Murphy shows a lot about him. I think that by promising this it shows that you are a C.T.R. person. When you do everything by the rules and fairly it means way more than being dishonest. When Dale Murphy made this promise he never broke it. He always played by the rules and the right way. I think that this is something that everyone should do because doing everything the right way makes you a better person. 

        Oncologist

Duties and responsibilities: They collect medical histories and perform physical evaluations. They maintain records, they coordinate with other medical personnel, and they manage the work of the staff. They provide a variety of diagnostic procedures to see the condition of tissues and detect cancer.

Salary:   $217,856- 370,000

Education: To become an oncologist you are supposed to complete eight years of undergraduate and medical school education. You then have to train in a medical residency for 3-5 years depending on the specialty. You may also have to complete a residency of fellowship that up to 3 years.

In my opinion I think that I would want to become an oncologist. The reason why I would want to become an oncologist is because they have a very good salary. Even if it is a large amount of years in school I think that I would want to work as an oncologist.

Duties and responsibilities: Heliotherapy is also known as light therapy in which consists of a great exposure to daylight or to specific wavelengths of light. It is common to be used for skin disorders like acne vulgaris, eczema, and neonatal jaundice.

Education: To become a heliotherapist you are supposed to have a bachelor degree of science.

In my opinion I think that I wouldn’t want to study heliotherapy. The reason why o wouldn’t want to be a heliotherapist is because I wouldn’t want to work with light. They also don’t have a big amount of an annual salary

Reflection: I agree with what Dale Murphy is saying in this quote. What Dale Murphy is saying is that it doesn't matter what you do what matters is that you do it with good character. You can be the smartest person in the work at somewhere really important but have bad character. Or you can be not so smart but do everything fairly with a good character. People will not judge you as a bad person if you do everything with a smile or for a good purpose. You will feel way better if you do everything fairly and honestly. For example if you achieve things unfairly like cheating you have bad character and people will think bad about you.

Mitch is a really good hearted kid. He wanted to do something that his dad would enjoy and never forget. He knew that his dad had cancer and he would feel sad and unexcited he really wanted his dad to feel happy before he died. What he did was that he decided to join the wrestling team and try all he could to be a champion on national wrestling. He knew that this would make his dad very proud and would make him stop thinking for a while everything bad that was happening. He trained every single day and lifted weights to reach his goal. When he won the championship his dad was so glad on what his son had achieved for him. I think that he was a really nice heart because he never thought about the benefits he could have by winning all he thought and his purpose was to make his father happy. I learned that you should always think about the others and not only yourself.

Reflection: What this quote by Benjamin Franklin is trying to say is that it doesn’t matter how beautiful or how rich you are what matters is how you are from the inside. I agree with Benjamin franklin because nobody likes an ugly hearted person. If a person is so rich and pretty but so annoying and conceded from the inside nobody likes them. On the other hand if a person is poor but has an amazing heart it is all that matters. For example if there is a poor person in the streets looking for food and a really rich person passes by and doesn’t help them but another poor person comes and helps them what are people going to think about the rich person. They are going to think that they are bad people who only want everything for themselves. On the other hand the helpful person is known as a good human being.

They develop and implement strategies to improve the health of individuals and communities.  They also collect data and discuss health concerns with members of specific populations or communities.

Education: To become a health educator you need a bachelor’s degree.  You also need the health specialist credential. They typically need a high school diploma and complete a brief period of on-the-job training.

In my opinion I think that I wouldn’t want to be a health specialist. The reason why I wouldn’t want to be a health specialist is because I don’t think that I would like to do research and paperwork or those kinds of things. I would want to do something more exciting like a doctor or a pediatrician even if it would involve more years of studying. I would want a job with a higher salary as well.
